Berlin (DE), Bürs (AT). At InnoTrans 2026, Getzner Werkstoffe will demonstrate the added value offered by a track-wide approach combining vibration isolation, superstructure protection and noise reduction: measurable improvements in the availability, service life and cost-effectiveness of railway infrastructure. The focus will be on engineering expertise, as well as measurement, analysis and internationally proven solutions for the railway sector.

Getzner Werkstoffe will be exhibiting at InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin under the motto “Beyond Track Protection”. The vibration protection specialist from Bürs (Vorarlberg) will demonstrate that modern vibration protection in the railway sector goes far beyond individual measures on the track. The focus is on a holistic approach: Getzner considers not only the effect of individual products, but also the interaction between the rail, sleeper, ballast, subgrade, rolling stock and elastic components along the entire route. A key factor here is a shift in perspective: rather than implementing isolated measures within the track system, Getzner specifically optimises the interaction of the entire railway line. “It’s not just about the critical points in the track,” emphasises Jürgen Rainalter, CEO of Getzner Werkstoffe. “Our aim is to optimise the entire railway line in the long term: for greater availability, safety and cost-effectiveness.”

Track Protection: Vibration isolation, superstructure protection and noise reduction
At Getzner, “Track Protection” stands for highly effective solutions for vibration isolation, superstructure protection and the reduction of noise and vibrations. “Beyond” begins where this protective effect is translated into a comprehensive optimisation of the entire line – with positive effects on availability, service life and cost-effectiveness. Through measurement, analysis, calculation and testing, Getzner precisely tailors solutions and materials to the specific requirements. In addition, the company supports operators, planners and contractors with international engineering expertise, on-site consultancy and guidance on professional installation.

Sensor sleeper measures load
Getzner demonstrates how this approach works in practice using, amongst other things, the Sensor Sleeper. This sleeper, equipped with sensors, visualises how load and pressure are distributed between the sleeper and the ballast. It thus provides an important basis for better understanding the track, assessing critical areas and designing targeted measures.

18 years of continuous operation without any loss of performance
Getzner demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach through international case studies, which will be presented at the exhibition stand. On the Tenerife tramway, a mass-spring system made of Sylomer®, which has been in continuous operation for 18 years, ensures effective vibration isolation that complies with regulatory limits. The solutions also prove their worth on high-speed and heavy-duty lines, despite extreme demands. One example is the Ankara–Sivas high-speed line in Turkey, where various elastic solutions – including under ballast mats, under sleeper pads and mass-spring systems – were combined depending on the requirements and the section of track. “Thanks to the elasticity of Getzner’s products, the stiffness of the tracks was adjusted to the desired level. The aim is to significantly reduce maintenance costs as a result,” according to those involved in the project.

More economical means more sustainable
These examples demonstrate that correctly designed vibration protection reduces vibrations and noise whilst simultaneously relieving stress on the track superstructure. Ballast wear and maintenance costs are reduced, whilst track alignment stability is improved. This has a direct positive impact on the availability and life-cycle costs of a railway line. “Our solutions draw on more than 50 years’ experience in railway infrastructure. What matters is how we apply this experience to reduce wear and tear and ensure the line is operated in a stable and cost-effective manner over the long term,” says Jürgen Rainalter.

At InnoTrans 2026, Getzner Werkstoffe will demonstrate how experience, measurement, analysis and precise material optimisation combine to create holistic solutions for high-performance and cost-effective railway lines. Trade visitors can gain an insight into the practical implementation at the stand through specific applications, international case studies and the Sensor Sleeper.
